We may not give anger, jealousy, resentment, suspicious natures, inability to trust, secret self hatred, a sense of unworthiness, confusion, and countless other emotions the title of fear out of ego but any energy or emotion can be traced back to one of two basic elements, Love or fear. Therefore, any emotion that is not in Love is based in fear. Accept, understand, that fact and your fears will begin to lose their holding power giving way to Truth and true empowerment's manifestation within your spirit and 'life'. Denying these fears exist feeds their power. Walk up to the lion with confidence in Love's power and he will retreat or still. Run from him and he will chase until he devours you whole. Know your power. Understand the power of your thoughts. Understand thoughts are things and carry an energy that is very real and can be scientifically measured/proven in our new age of technology.

It's time to demystify the truths of the Universe and enable humanity to heal and serve it's ultimate purpose - we are here to learn to Love.... ourselves and one another. To learn to be on this planet together, in our countries, our communities and our homes... together in peace and Love.

Be Aware. Be Love.

~Ginnie

"The correction of fear is your responsibility. When you ask for release from fear, you are implying it is not. You should ask, instead, for help in the conditions that have brought the fear about. These conditions always entail a willingness to be separate. At that level you can help it. You are much too tolerant of mind wandering, and are passively condoning your mind's miscreations. The particular result does not matter, but the fundamental error does. The correction is always the same. Before you choose to do anything, ask me if your choice is in accord with mine. If you are sure that it is, there will be no fear. Fear is always a sign of strain, arising whenever what you want conflicts with what you do." Perhaps it’s your child, grandchild, or garden – what you care for most, in a loving patient way, holds close to how you need to care for yourself more consistently. On a fundamental level, that’s what Extreme Self Care is all about: extraordinary mothering. A good mother knows what helps a child feel whole in every way. She develops a finely tuned sensor that lets her know what her children need; and using a loving discerning eyes, does her best to meet these needs.”
~excerpt from The Art of Extreme Self-Care by Cheryl Richardson

During treatment as a therapist I often implement an empty chair technique (Gestalt therapy developed by Fritz Pearls) in which a client can talk directly to/confront a person who is not in the room. After a brief meditation I’ll direct the client to envision this person sitting in an empty chair in the room and speak directly to them. This works well for situations including giving closure to a client who has lost someone they love, abused by someone they do not wish to confront in the physical and various other situations. However, more and more often I have found myself using this technique in a completely different capacity.

We seem to have no problem nurturing those we love most; our children, significant other, family or dear friend. Why then is it we find it so extremely difficult to direct that same love to self? Louse Hay, the author of You Can Heal Your Life, encourages us to do mirror work in which we stand before a mirror several times a day, look ourselves directly in the eyes and say, “I love you _______ (insert your name here)”.

Several years ago as I began my own journey of sincere self love I encountered a woman with a most beautiful spirit and energy in a local bookstore. We struck up a conversation that would change my life. The woman encouraged me to do mirror work, though she did not call it that. She asked that every day I look directly in the mirror, into my own eyes and say the following three things; 1) I forgive you 2) I love you 3) I release you to your highest good.

I remember the first time I looked into my own eyes and said “I love you Ginnie”; completely corny and disingenuous. But why? I believe it now to be for the fact we are taught early on in life to treat others with care, be kind, loving -The Golden Rule: “Treat others as you would want them to treat you”. How often though were we told to treat ourselves with that same caliber of love and nurturing? Just as placing a pen in my left hand and beginning to write a sentence feels abnormal for me as a right handed person the practice of self love at first felt odd and out of place. With practice I did gradually begin to feel more at ease with the statements I was asked to make to myself, even eventually embracing them completely.

With each passing week, then each day, I began to hold the glance into my own eyes longer and see into myself on a deeper level. Then one day as I said the words, “I forgive you Ginnie” I began to cry – sob really. For several days I would sob at each statement I said to myself as years of pain, self avoidance and missed opportunity of loving myself streamed down my face. I noticed I began to care for myself better, and when I didn’t it irritated my spirit much more than before. I also became more compassionate with others with a newly enhanced sense of empathy. It was truly a life altering experience.

So, this is what I ask of my client’s. See yourself in that ‘empty chair’. See the child within you at age 6, 15, 22 and see you in the now. What does ‘she’ need? Give it to her. I often ask that women and men pick up that little child, sit them on their lap and hold them tightly. Let them know that they are safe, that they are now there to care for them and protect them. Shed that same giving spirit of love and nurturance on her/him that you afford so many others in your life. And you know what will happen? Not only can you love yourself on a deeper more sincere and genuine level you will also then be capable of sharing that same love with all those you hold close.

On this Mother’s Day and each day I ask that we all, including myself, continue our journey of self love as we ‘mother’ ourselves. Be the change…
To each of us who mother – Happy Mother’s Day.

Beauty, love, light & peace ~ Ginnie

Originally posted Mother's Dy May 9, 2009

A Love letter to my sister's...

You are the precious child of something greater than our minds have the potential to comprehend. You are the mother of all. You are the child of an ancestral line too many of us have lost connection with. Shades of brown, yellow, red, tan, olive, peach or pale – you are sisters, you are MY sister. I believe until we realize our sisterhood to all it impossible to truly know ourselves singularly. Women may be given title in a social structure as a minority yet we know – hear - the call deep within our being that a number cannot represent the power we hold within our touch, hearts, minds and spirit. We have the ability to stir emotions so deep and powerful it causes the pulse to quicken or calm.

Women have been uniquely designed by the Source of creation to give birth to beating hearts that give home to the soul. We are the mothers of our planet. We are the healers of ourselves and through the receiving of that healing we have the potential to teach it and pass it on to the next. And understand what healing truly is. It is not a cure, but an experience of wholeness.

When we accept the bodies we live in as the magnificent temples they are, however scared from battle or wounded from grief and pains they may be, we open up within a portal of Light that beams more brightly than the brightest star, when we understand who and what we are..

It pains me to see my fellow sister beat herself down because of her dress size, insecurity of not being as beautiful as she wishes, without understanding of her worth or somehow in a state of lack. Even the most beautifully adorned looking in the mirror and seeing imperfection instead of the goddess. The word goddess means ‘a women who is adored’. Yet we are all too often hypervigilant of what we feel we do not have, so much so we are missing out on moments to treasure. We have all been there. Let our goal be to not return there any more often than possible and when we do find ourselves in that place let us leave reminders of who we are so we may not stay so long when we return in those moments of unknowing. Let us be vulnerable enough to go to a trusted sister and ask for a reminder. Let us love one another tenderly.

Love, it is the purpose of all journeys. Loving ourselves is perhaps the greatest of challenges along that path. We must Love ourselves and others genuinely to attract the reflection of genuine Love into our life experience. So today I ask you to look at yourself through the eyes of love you have for your family and friends. Give yourself a break. We are often the most difficult with ourselves, aren’t we? Today look and SEE what those who truly love and appreciate you see when they look into your eyes, into your gaze… Take great care of your Temple by loving it TODAY. Not in a month once you’ve lost an inch or pounds. Love it today, you today. Be mindful, in the moment, that this body is temporal but the spirit eternal. Mother yourself. Nurture your spirit. Breathe in gentleness and allow it to saturate your being. Know that each choice you make and life you touch literally changes eternity. Begin with your own.

Our sexuality is a topic deserving of its own message but for now I would say embrace your sensual spirit. Do not abuse your own body or allow another to for the body and spirit as we know are undeniably intertwined. Sex alone is a wondrous pleasure yet the woman (and man) who know the power of joining spirit with sex give rise to an experience that transcends earthly and physical understanding. Tantra is not about positions and knowledge of specialty definitions but of the knowing of one’s self through the opening and joining of the spirit with another. The enlightenment that can come from the sharing and embracing of our sexuality in spirit is beyond words. May we all take the care to entrust our souls and bodies only with those who also know and practice this as truth. The world exploits woman’s sexuality but we have the power as to the direction of our own personal power and energies. Standing in our power we give rise to truth and lower level energies may not reside around us. In this we instantly and effortlessly stand apart from the norm. We set standards for all those we come into contact with. We give the gift to our young sister to know she is a jewel to be adored not a trinket to be tossed amongst others trivially.

Today I ask you to sit in silence, let all thoughts and the minutia of daily living go - remember who you are. Give way for the inner voice to whisper its own love letter to your soul. Remember the little girl who still resides within, let her come out and play. When we do it’s amazing what she can remind us of and re-teach us. Offer gratitude to the ancestral line of mother’s who have come before giving us life. Feel your feet firmly planted on the earth and imagine the deep roots of the tree of life. Imagine how deep the roots intertwine far below the soil and the strength and nurturance provided... and when needed find shelter within its shade and branches. Remember. We know so much, often it is a matter of remembering versus learning.

Look above you into the sky and recognize the expansive majesty and mysteries of how great an opportunity to be on this rock floating in space. Recognize the Universe and your part in it. It is beyond amazing.

Above all know you are Loved and that you are Love, become a master of it.

And know that this letter started out as a love letter to a dear friend and reminder to myself.

Be Love.

In gratitude,
Ginnie

Lyrical Rhapsody Foundation Music Therapy Fundraising

Lyrical Rhapsody is more than a radio show…

Lyrical Rhapsody Foundation is a not for profit organization dedicated to providing mental health therapy services focusing on healing through expressive arts techniques to individuals, families and groups in community centers, schools, nursing homes, hospital settings and globally via online support , advocacy and education.

Our first major fund raising project for Lyrical Rhapsody Foundation; Fund raising for iPods/MP3 players to offer music therapy, guided meditations, and healing affirmations for ill and traumatized children undergoing treatment through local agencies and hospitals.

How can you help?:

Mail new or gently used MP3 players/ iPods to Lyrical Rhapsody P.O.
